The Vatican, May 15 (CNA) A delegation from the Taiwan Bishops' Conference met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday, discussing with him the nation's situation on the international stage.
It has been 10 years since Taiwan Bishops' Conference delegation visited the Vatican, so its members took advantage of their one-hour meeting with the Pope to discuss public sentiment in Taiwan about being suppressed on the international stage, describing the nation as being like an orphan in need of the Pope's blessing and solicitude.
In response, Pope Francis said that he was well aware of Taiwan's unique situation given his close relationship with the late Argentine priest Ricardo Ferreira, who devoted nearly half a century of his life to serving the people of Taiwan.
The members of the delegation asked the Pope to pray for Taiwan and invited him to visit the country at his earliest convenience.
