In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, starting from 24 March 2020, all consular services applications should be done by post unless an in-person signature or witness is needed (eg. Power of Attorney, Declaration Form, etc). Appointments will be required for all in-person services. Matters Needing Attention
- This Office only provides authentication services for documents originating from the United Kingdom to be used in Taiwan. For documents originating from other countries, please inquire with the Taiwan overseas office in the originating countries.
- Applicants MUST first contact the Taiwanese authorities (employer, immigration, school, etc.) who require these documents and confirm that the document's content, format, and numbers of copies, are as required. Then refer to Authentication page on our website for different types of documents. We do not take responsibility if the authenticated documents are rejected for their purpose.
- Documents that are issued in the UK need to be legalised by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) or The Isle of Man Courts of Justice before submitting to us. Some documents may need to be notarised before sending to FCDO. Please refer to FCDO Legalisation Office.
Service Area/ Consular Jurisdiction
Scotland, North England (above Durham and Cumbria), and the Isle of Man.
Other documents originating from the south of the United Kingdom (south of Durham and Cumbria, including Guernsey and Jersey) and Northern Ireland should be sent to our London office for authentication.
Required Documents
- All applicants or their agents are required to fill in an application form for authentication. For agents, please fill in the agent section.
- Please fill this form correctly in clear handwriting.
- Email and phone numbers are required.
- If the application form and the business document are signed by different people from the company, all named person's ID copies are required.
Identifications:
- Both the applicant and the agent must provide clear copies of identification papers (passport or Certificate of Incorporation).

The Original Document(s) and a copy of the document(s):
- The original document(s) legalized by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)/ The Isle of Man Courts of Justice (with the apostille)
- One photocopy of the original documents (with a copy of the apostille) for its records.
Letter of Authorisation:
- The agent must show proof that he or she is the authorised person or representative of the company to apply for the document authentication by providing a Letter of Authorisation (signed by the applicant) and a company letter (if applicable).
- A photocopy of the agent's valid ID is also required.
- The consular officer has the right to ask for more proof if deemed necessary.
Special Notice for Different Types of Documents
- Police Certificate:
ACRO Police Certificates should be authenticated by TRO in the UK (London Office). Please note that Police Certificate used for the resident visa application should be issued by the ACRO Criminal Records Office. We do not accept criminal records issued by other parties. - No Impediment Certificate:
We only accept the following documents:- Superintendent Registrar's Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage
- Certificate of No Impediment
- Certificate in Respect of Legal Capacity to Marry (Certificate of No Impediment) Marriage (Northern Ireland) Order 2003.
We do NOT accept the following documents: - Affirmation
- Affidavit of Marital Status
- Marriage Certificate
- National Record of Scotland.
- School letter/ education certificate/ qualification certificate:
A notary public must notarize the contents of the document(s) having received confirmation of authenticity/accuracy from the issuing party. We do not accept otherwise.

Certified Translation
If you are asked to provide a translated copy of your document. Please note the following:
- You can do the translation yourself.
- The translation needs to be in Traditional Chinese.
- The translated copy needs to be formatted the same as the original.
- You will need to make an appointment to come to our office for a witness signature to declare that the translation is true to the original.

- Pound Sterling cash paid in person (Please do not mail cash by post)
- Postal Order (issue date within 6 months)
- Bankers Draft (issue date within 6 months. Please make sure there is an "International Sort Code" on the bankers draft, see banker's draft criteria for more information)
- Company cheques (No personal cheques will be accepted. Issue date within 6 months)

Self-addressed Envelope and Return Postage
We currently only allow in-person applications when necessary and strictly by appointment. All other applications should be made by post unless otherwise suggested.
- Include a pre-paid and self-addressed return envelope in your application. For security reasons, Royal Mail Special Delivery (up to 500g) is recommended. Please make sure the stamp is not dated.
- Royal Mail international delivery with tracking service, to Taiwan or to other countries: £12 (up to 100g, please refer to Royal Mail website if your documents weigh around/more than 100g ). This international postage can be included in the fee payment. Please see https://www.royalmail.com/ for more information regarding postage.
