Taiwan artist Hsian-Jung Chen, who was selected to be artist-in-residency at Fremantle Arts Centre in Western Australia through the AsiaLink's international residency exchange program, will hold the “Open Studio” from 7th to 11th of June in the centre.
Self-taught artist Hsian discovered the fun and his creativity through Hackney’s Community Class in East London. His inspiration comes from the common experiences of people in daily life. He reinterprets and distorts common themes purposely in order to invoke resonance with the audience through his ceramic practice and mixed media installations.
Whilst in residence at FAC for three months, Hsian will do research on the Fremantle Market as one of the few municipal market buildings that still serves its original purpose in Australia today. He will interview locals, observe people's movements and behaviour in the markets, gather found objects and Stories, and look at historical archival material and Ceramics Studio. His residency research outcome will be shown during the Open Studio. People are welcome to pay a visit and talk to the artist.
