Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam, partnering with Taiwan Business Association in Brunei Darussalam and Taiwan graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam, launches a charity campaign by donating 6 Taiwan-made wheelchairs to Pusat Bahagia Tutong on 9 June, 2021. These wheelchairs were presented to Dayangku Dewi kartika Puteri, Head of the Division of People with Disability, Department of Community Development, Tutong County, jointly by Representative Andrew H.C. Lee, Honorary Chairman Richard Chuang and Chairman Yap Ong Chuan of Taiwan Business Association.
Inspired by the commonly shared value and faith, and cultural tradition of generosity and sharing between Taiwan and Brunei, together with the Associations we are thrilled to be at the forefront of charity works and facilitating benevolent actions to fund the wheelchairs. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Taiwan Business Association and Taiwan Graduates Association collected 174 wheelchairs early last year. Following a series of donations of 157 wheelchairs to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS), PMMPMHAMB Hospital, Tutong, SSB Hospital, Kuala Belait, PIHM Hospital, Temburong, Persatuan Knak-Knak Cacat(KACA), Chung Hwa schools, and Pusat Ehsan in Bandar. This concerted effort fully demonstrates the friendship of the people from Taiwan as well as the corporate social responsibility practiced by entrepreneurs affiliated with the Associations.
In particular, it is worth mentioning that Golden Corporation (GC), a leading firm in blue shrimp farming and fishing industry in Tutong area, operated by Taiwanese Managing Director Richard Chuang, Honorary Chairman of the Taiwan Business Association, has for years organized charity feast for Pusat Bahagia Tutong during “Aidil Fitri” period, and employed four students from Pusat Bahamian. This charity act rightly reflects the company's core value of giving back to local community and fulfilling its social responsibilities, and demonstrates friendship of the people of Taiwan towards Brunei.
Taiwan has a long history of humanitarianism and Taiwan is well-positioned to repay its debt to the international community by sharing experiences and resources with friendly countries. Given the pandemic and to join the Brunei government-led combat against the virus, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office has been collaborating with the related associations and individuals to engage in charity activities. These donations are indeed a testament to the spirit and value of "Taiwan can help, Taiwan is helping", and will be serving as a catalyst to further enhance existing bilateral relationship between Taiwan and Brunei.
