2026 Taiwan Scholarship
Purpose:
The Taiwan Scholarship Program was established by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. In addition to providing study opportunities for a wide range of disciplines at Taiwan’s universities and colleges, this program also aims to:
- Promote knowledge, understanding and friendship between people in Taiwan and in countries around the world.
- Provide opportunities to increase academic and educational links with international institutions of higher education.
- Develop outstanding professionals and experts to meet the needs of the global society.
Scholarships:
Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years.
Master’s program: maximum 2 years.
Doctoral program: maximum 4 years.
- Every recipient cannot receive Taiwan scholarship for more than 5 years in total.
Amount of Scholarships:
Tuition and payment of academic fees, including credit fee. Upon validation of tuition and above fees, the MOE awards each recipient per semester up to TWD 40,000 (Equivalent to 1744 CAD, subject to currency rate fluctuation). If the total amount of these fees exceeds TWD 40,000, the remaining amount must be paid to the university/college by the student. Tuition and academic fees do not include any of the following: administration fees, thesis supervision fees, insurance premiums, accommodation, Internet access, all of which are payable by the recipients.
Undergraduate Living Allowance: a monthly stipend of TWD 15,000 (Equivalent to 654 CAD, subject to currency rate fluctuation) until June 30 of the graduation year
Master’s or Doctoral Living Allowance: a monthly stipend of TWD 20,000 (Equivalent to 872 CAD, subject to currency rate fluctuation)
Scholarship Period: Begins on September 1 and ends on August 31 of the following year. Recipients must arrive in Taiwan and register at their university/college at the schedule time. It is not permitted to defer taking up the scholarship to a later year.

Eligibility:
- Be a high school graduate or above, have an excellent academic performance in his/her most recent formal educational study experience, be of good moral character and does not have any criminal records.
- Must be a Canadian citizen.
- Is not a R.O.C. (Taiwan) national.
- Does not have the status of being an overseas compatriot student.
- Does not hold the Alien Permanent Resident Certificate of ROC.
- Has never enrolled at any educational institution in Taiwan for the same level of degree or obtained student status that he/she intends to matriculate at. Graduating students pursuing further studies are exempt from this rule.
- Has not deferred admission.
- Is not an exchange student in accordance with any agreement of cooperation between an international university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan, at the time of receiving a Taiwan Scholarship.
- Has not received Taiwan Scholarship for a total of five years.
- Does not have any revocation record regarding the Taiwan Scholarship Program nor from the Ministry of Education’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Programs.
- Is not a recipient of any other scholarship or subsidy offered by the Taiwan government or from any other educational institutions in Taiwan. The Tuition & Miscellaneous Expense Discounts provided by universities/colleges as a supplement to this scholarship is exempted from this rule.
Required Documents:
- Required documents should be mailed to the office before the Deadline March 31st, 2026 using the contact information as shown below.
- One copy of the completed application form.
- One photocopy of applicant’s passport or other nationality certificates.
- One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and a complete grade transcript. (These documents must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas representative office if issued by international educational institutions.)
- Applicants should apply directly for admission within the deadlines specified by each university/college and provide a copy of supporting admission application materials (g. photocopies of application forms for a degree program at universities/colleges in Taiwan or a copy of the application fee receipt, or the reply letter or e-mail from the school which the applicant has applied to). Please be noted, the exact academic year that applicants would be enrolled as full-time students at these institutions must be clearly specified on these documents.
- Two letters of reference, signed and sealed in envelopes (i.e. principals, professors, or supervisors).
- A copy of a language proficiency certificate:
- A copy of results or certificate for the “Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language” (TOCFL) Level 3 or above. (applicants to all-English programs are exempt from this rule)
- For applications to all-English programs, a copy of TOEFL test scores or other recognized English language proficiency exams or degrees awarded in English must be submitted. English-speaking nationals are exempt from this rule.
Note:
- Taiwan Scholarship recipients shall comply with the Ministry of Education’s policies concerning Taiwan Scholarship awardees and participate in language, cultural, and related instructional, exchange, and outreach activities.
- Any matters not specified herein shall be governed by the amended “MOE Taiwan Scholarship Program Directions” promulgated by the Ministry of Education.
