On October 8th, Representative Freddy Lim hosted the 114th National Day celebration of Taiwan, welcoming nearly one hundred distinguished guests from various sectors, including Chair Mats Löfström, First Vice Chair Atte Harjanne, and Second Vice Chair Veijo Niemi of the Finnish Parliamentary Taiwan Friendship Group.
In his remarks, Representative Lim pointed out that Taiwan plays an indispensable role in global semiconductor and cutting-edge technology. Politically, as authoritarian regimes attempt to undermine democracy, Taiwan have experienced decades of coercion from China. However, decades of pressure have made Taiwan stronger and more resilient.
Nevertheless, Representative Lim also emphasized that constant pressure and isolation should not be accepted. Working together with Finland and partners around the world, Taiwan can not only safeguard peace and freedom but also create a hopeful future where Taiwan can fully contribute and be treated equally on the international stage.
In his speech, First Vice Chair Atte Harjanne reiterated his support for deepening the Taiwan-Finland relationship and Taiwan’s participation in all international institutions and organizations it wishes to be part of.
The event was filled with warmth and joy, featuring Shamisen with Rock Music and a ceremony where attendees sang the national anthems of the Taiwan and Finland, raised a toast, cut a birthday cake, and engaged in raffle games .
