The MOFA Taiwan Fellowship Program aims to encourage foreign scholars with a focus on Taiwan, China, cross-strait relations, Indo-Pacific region and Sinology to conduct further research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. Specifically, we welcome studies on key issues in alignment with Taiwan government's policy, including integrated diplomacy, energy security, countering transborder suppression, undersea cable, global supply chain resilience, etc.
I. Deadline and Duration
The application is open from 1 May to 30 June. The duration of the fellowship ranges from three months to 12 months consecutively. Recipients can begin the fellowship in Taiwan as early as 1 January 2027 and must complete the fellowship by 31 December 2027.
II. Eligibility (※TRO in Finland only accepts applications from scholars based in Finland)
Recipients shall be professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, doctoral program students at related departments of Finnish universities, or research fellows of equivalent level at academic institutions in Finland.
III. Award
(1) Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of every month.
For professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000
For assistant professors, assistant research fellows, or doctoral candidates: NT$50,000
(2) One round-trip, economy-class ticket for the most direct route to Taiwan (The subsidy will be decided by MOFA in accordance with the relevant regulations).
(3) Accident insurance (plus a medical insurance for accidental injuries) coverage of NT$1 million.
IV. Application:
Applicants shall first submit online applications by themselves (https://taiwanfellowship.ncl.edu.tw ) and then mail or personally deliver the following documents to our Office by 1 July (postmark date):
1. Printed online application form
2. Resume (with CV and publication list)
3. Research proposal (in Chinese or English standard research format; at most 3 pages)
4. Two letters of recommendation
