Passport Renewal Prerequisites
If you are traveling or residing abroad, you may renew your passport at the nearest ROC overseas mission under the following circumstances:
Mandatory Renewal:
- The passport is damaged and no longer usable (If the passport is severely damaged, renewal is required. The consulate may interview the applicant and extend the review period up to 2 months, with a maximum extension of 6 months. The validity of the renewed passport may be shortened to between 1 year and 6 months, or up to 3 years).
- The passport holder's appearance has changed and no longer matches the photo in the passport.
- Changes have been made to the information on the passport data page.
- The passport holder has obtained a national identification number.
- The passport has manufacturing defects.
- The chip embedded in the passport is unreadable.
Optional Renewal:
- The passport has expired.
- The passport has less than one year of validity remaining.
- The current passport is not the latest version.
Required Documents for Passport Renewal
- A completed and signed Passport Application Form
- Your most recent passport, along with a photocopy of its biometric data page.
- Two identical passport photos in color with a white background (head-to-chin length: 3.2-3.6 cm).
- A valid personal ID issued by your current country of residence, along with a photocopy (e.g., Irish residency permit or Irish passport). The original document will be returned after verification.
