The Statement Issued by the Chinese Embassy in North Macedonia on November 20 Distorts Facts and Misleads the International Community
In response to the statement released by the Chinese Embassy in North Macedonia on November 20, which contains false accusations and improper pressure regarding the meeting between Members of the Parliament of North Macedonia and our representatives, the Taipei Representative Office in Italy issues the following solemn statement:
Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country; the interactions and cooperations among Taiwan and other countries around the world are based on the shared values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, which is undoubtedly in accordance with international law and international practice.
Interactions between the Taiwanese government and parliament and Members of the Parliament of North Macedonia aim to enhance the well-being of both peoples and strengthen our partnership. These activities are entirely legitimate and constructive, and must not be interfered with by any external political pressure.
The statement by the Chinese Embassy in North Macedonia, asserting the so-called “One China Principle “, falsely claiming that “Taiwan is China’s Taiwan,” and distorting UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, seriously departs from the facts. Our Office strongly condemns this “serious distortion of facts” and emphasizes that it cannot alter the objective reality that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are not subordinate to each other.
The Taipei Representative Office in Italy reiterates its strong condemnation of the Chinese government for continuously spreading absurd and false narratives aimed at undermining Taiwan’s sovereignty in various international settings.
